1. 研究评估考核（the Research Assessment Exercise, 简称RAE），是英国高等教育基金委员会对英国高等教育机构的研究质量进行的一次系统全面的测评，大约每五年进行一次。前几次的RAE排名分别发布于1986、1989、1992、1996和2001年。最新一期的排名时隔七年才公诸于世。
2. RAE (Research Assessment Exercise)是由英格兰Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE)、苏格兰Funding Council (SFC)、威尔士the Higher Education Funding Council(HEFCW)和北爱尔兰Department for Employment and Learning (DEL)这四个高等教育基金委员会联合评出的，目的是对由这四个高等教育基金委员会提供科研经费的大学及教育机构的科研水平和科研贡献做出评估，也为以后对这些学校的资金支持力度提供指导，所以这项评选的结果对于英国大学来说至关重要。
