Gerald (Malcolm) (1925—95), English zoologist and writer, younger brother of Lawrence Durrell. In 1958 he founded a zoo (later the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust) devoted to the conservation and captive breeding of endangered species. Notable works: My Family and Other Animals (1956).

Lawrence (George) (1912—90), English novelist, poet, and travel writer, brother of Gerald Durrell. He spent much of his life abroad, particularly in the Mediterranean. Notable works: Alexandria Quartet (four novels, 1957—60) and Prospero's Cell (travel, 1945).
