John James Rickard (1876—1935), Scottish physiologist. He directed the research on pancreatic extracts by F. G. Banting and C. H. Best which led to the discovery and isolation of insulin. Macleod shared a Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Banting in 1923.
