Cyril (Vernon) (1903—74), English writer and journalist. His works include one novel, The Rock Pool (1936), and collections of essays, aphorisms, and reflections, among which are Enemies of Promise (1938) and The Unquiet Grave (1944). He worked for the Sunday Times from 1951 until 1974.
